Private AI for healthcare

AI for healthcare data that stays on-premises

Patient and business data stays on hardware you control. We design private AI systems with HIPAA requirements in mind from the first conversation, led by a team that has built healthcare platforms serving millions.

Data stays on-premisesHIPAA-conscious design
The problem

Your staff want AI. Your data can't go to it.

Sensitive data, public AI tools

Sending patient or business data to a hosted AI service raises vendor, agreement and data-location questions that many organizations can't get past.

Knowledge nobody can find

Policies, procedures and reference documents are spread across systems. Staff spend time searching, or ask a colleague who may not know.

Paperwork that eats the day

Intake forms, referrals and notes get read, summarized and re-keyed by hand, taking staff time away from patients and operations.

Example use cases

Where private AI helps first

Administrative and knowledge work, with outputs designed for a person to review.

Intake summarization

Turn intake forms and referral packets into a short, structured summary for staff to check, instead of reading every page.

Document search

Search policies, procedures and reference documents by meaning, not just keywords, with links back to the source.

Internal knowledge Q&A

Staff ask questions in plain language and get answers drawn from your own documents, with the sources shown.

Healthcare background

We've built healthcare platforms before

  • Our leadership has built multi-tenant healthcare platforms at Change Healthcare that serve millions of users.
  • That work included migrating 10+ OpenSearch clusters while keeping 99.9% uptime.
  • We know that in healthcare, access control, audit trails and uptime come first, ahead of the AI itself.

HIPAA-conscious design means we build with HIPAA's safeguards in mind: access control, audit logging, encryption and keeping data on hardware you control. We don't certify systems or guarantee compliance; that depends on your policies, agreements and operations, and your compliance team makes the call.

Ways to start

Start small, prove it, then scale

Two defined offers. Each starts with a free 30-minute call.

Private AI Readiness Assessment

1 to 2 weeksStarting at $7,500

For: Healthcare organizations weighing private AI before committing budget.

  • Which use cases are worth doing first, and where patient data is involved
  • Hardware sizing for on-premises models and load
  • Cost comparison against cloud AI APIs

Private AI Pilot

4 to 6 weeksStarting at $25,000 (hardware not included)

For: Teams ready to prove one use case on their own hardware.

  • One working use case, such as intake summarization or document search
  • Running on-premises, behind your firewall
  • No calls to outside AI APIs: patient and business data stays in-house

How it works

From first call to a working pilot

1

Assess

We map the use case, where patient data is involved, your existing systems and hardware, and the safeguards it needs.

2

Pilot

4 to 6 weeks: one use case running on-premises, with access controls and audit logging from day one.

3

Review

We go through results, limits and risks with your clinical, IT and compliance stakeholders.

4

Expand

You keep the system and the documentation. Extend it to more teams or the next use case.

FAQ

Common questions

Is this HIPAA compliant?

We design with HIPAA's safeguards in mind, but we don't certify systems or guarantee compliance. Compliance depends on your policies, agreements and how the system is operated, and your compliance team makes that determination. We document the design so they can review it.

Does patient data leave our premises?

Not for AI processing. Models, indexes and logs run on hardware you control, and the system makes no calls to outside AI APIs.

Will you sign a business associate agreement?

Engagements are designed so our team never accesses protected health information. Systems run entirely on your infrastructure, under your control.

Does the AI make clinical decisions?

No. The use cases we focus on are administrative and knowledge work: summaries, search and answers with sources, all designed for a person to review.

What hardware do we need?

It depends on how many people will use it and which models fit the work. Sizing is part of the Readiness Assessment, along with a cost comparison against cloud AI APIs. We use ai-on-a-box, our own tool, to turn a bare machine into a private inference API.

Who will we actually work with?

A senior SunFox architect leads every engagement. Our leadership brings experience from Microsoft, Volkswagen, Elektrobit, and Change Healthcare, building platforms used by 100M+ customers.
